The foot of the Packhorse Track

The entrance to the Packhorse Track, Crow Trees Lane

At the beginning, it’ s reasonably level

a_IMGP2223

Then if begins to drop –

a_IMGP2224

and becomes progressively steeper

a_IMGP2229

Many of the surface stones and setts have been dislodged

a_IMGP2226

and it is quite difficult to traverse, especially after rain

a_IMGP2228

but it’s very scenic!

a_IMGP2231

and about a metre wide, with obstructions from fallen banks and vegetation

a_IMGP2222

It levels out near the bottom

It is a reminder of how our ancestors travelled – the packhorse men or jaggers used this route from Halifax to Oldham
